The soothing effect of music on the human mind and body is a well-established fact. Listening to soft classical music can be beneficial to the mind and body, especially on your physiological functions. It can also help bring down high blood pressure and decrease stress levels in the body. Music has the power to act as a distraction and absorb our attention at the same time. This is particularly useful in meditation, and in preventing the mind from wandering. For hundreds of years, music has been used as a medium to treat illnesses and restore harmony between the body and mind. However, in recent studies, scientists have found that there are several other benefits of listening to music.

The following are just a few examples.

  • The form and structure of music can bring order to distressed and disabled children. It encourages communication and coordination and helps improve the quality of life.
  • Listening to music on headphones is helpful in reducing anxiety and stress in patients before and after surgery.
  • Music helps reduce the sensation of chronic and post-operative pain.
  • Music therapy can reduce emotional distress and improve the quality of life in adult cancer patients.

Jackalyn Rainosek appreciates all kinds of music and played the violin for many years.  Jackalyn and Liz are well known for using music as a way to assist people getting in touch with their feelings and learning to process feelings.
